The Snake Song Written by: Bobby Braddock
Originally performed by: n/a Search for audio clips of this song

He swallered a frog and hollered yum-yum
He slid down the hillside and darted his tongue
He entered the garden on this bright moonlight night
Then he stopped in his tracks, it was love at first sight

(he said) My skin is black, your skin is green
You dwell in a garden, I live by a stream
Although I'm short and stocky and you're long and lean
I've got a crush on you
Then he squeezed her tighter and tighter and tighter
I've got a crush on you

He said I'm a king snake, and you'll be my queen
With a butler and serpents, and your own private stream
If you refuse me it would be such a shame
'Cause I'm so tired of doing my own fang

Then he squeezed her tighter
To excite her and delight her
Oh I've got a crush on you
(and I'll be back tomorrow)

Next day when he got there, a two-legged man
Was holding sweet green thing in his big human hand
A long jet of water shot out of her nose
Ol' king snake had fallen in love with a hose

(he said) My skin is black, your skin is green
You dwell in a garden, I live by a stream
Although you're made of plastic I think you're fantastic
And I've got a crush on you.

But I don't think it's gonna work out.

This is an awfully cute kiddie song. The lyrics are average, nothing to rave about, but boy, can Billy sing the chorus! You'll understand what I mean when you hear the bit that goes "...and deLIGHT her...".

Hysterical!

Another one of Billy's numbers that has that touch of hilarity to it. That is what makes this song so worthwile. Billy's voice is so strong and dramatic in this one, especially on the chorus. Every time I listen to the words of this tune, I CANNOT stop laughing! It is truly priceless!

HAHAHAHAH!

At first when I heard the twangy guitars, I thought: "Oh no, what is this song?!" But then when I got the lyrics, I just laughed. And laughed. A king snake in love with a hose?! That was enough to save this song from a "1" rating!!! And Billy sings this AWFULLY WELL!

CUTE!!!!!

I think everyone will agree that not only is this song fun, but it's very original. But when I heard it, I didn't think of a king snake and a garden hose. The snake falls in love with a snake, but she's really a fake...right? Right, so perhaps this song was about falling in love with something that isn't what you think.

Hmm...let's see, what clichés come to mind here? "Don't judge a book by it's cover" and "Just be yourself" and "Nothing is what it seems to be" to name a few. I'm just saying that I think this song has a deeper, hidden meaning than a king snake falling in love with a gardening tool...or maybe not. I guess the only person who could answer that is Bobby Braddock...or Billy ofcourse.

But I could be completely off base here. For all I know, it really IS about a reptile's love life.

Either way, it's an outstanding song with amazing vocals and fun to listen to as well as sing.

Two thumbs up Billy!
