God's Alive And Well Written by: David Malloy, B. Roberts
Originally performed by: n/a Search for audio clips of this song

When I see the stars hang in the sky, oh
When I watch a bird spread its wings and fly
And each time I hear the wind blow through the trees, oh
With every breath of air that I breath
All the things I can't see
Still inside I believe

In a baby's laugh
In a mother's eyes
Little miracles around us
Every day of our lives
The way the sun lights up the dark
The hope that I feel in my heart
And as far as I can tell
God's alive and well
Yeah, God's alive and well

Just like the Earth cradles the moon, oh
How that far-away sun still makes the flowers bloom
And the joy only heaven can bring to a soul, oh
If trouble comes, I am safe in the hands
'Cause I know there's a plan
My heart understands

In a baby's laugh
In a mother's eye's
Little miracles around us
Every day of our lives
The way the sun lights up the dark
The hope that I feel in my heart
And as far as I can tell
God's alive and well
Yeah, God's alive and well

Call it a little bit of luck
Or just a simple twist of fate
Oh, we get swept up in the arms
You can feel it every day

In a baby's laugh
In a mother's eyes
Little miracles around us
Every day of our lives
The way the sun lights up the dark
The hope that I feel in my heart
And as far as I can tell

Yes, as far as I can tell
God's alive and well
Yeah, God's alive and well

As far as I can tell
God's alive and well

I Keep Wondering...

I keep wondering what Billy's career would look like now if he had come out and sang "God's Alive and Well" at the Country Music Awards show (instead of "She's My Girl").
To me, this song is signature Billy. It's a song about innocence and hope. It's about seeing God in all the things around you. It's a song of faith in humanity and nature.
I had the good fortune to be in the front row in Reno when Billy sang this song directly in front of me. He did it beautifully. The crowd stood in unison-- the best ovation all night. I was so wedged in between the stage and the people standing behind me that I couldn't even stand to join in the applause. All I could do was look Billy in the eye and mouth "Thank you, thank you!"
What a great song. It doesn't seem like it ever got the recognition it deserved.
