On June 26th, 2000 at 8:30am, Billy Gilman took part in a short radio interview
with "Ramblin'" Ray Stevens, Trish Biondo and "Guitar" Gavin Todd
of the US99 Morning Show, broadcast from Chicago, Illinois. The transcript of
that session follows.
Trish: He's the young country singer everyone's talking about, say god morning to 12-year-old Billy Gilman. Hey Billy! Billy: Hi, how are ya? Trish: Doin' great, how are you? Billy: I'm great, thank you. Ray: Billy, I've got to ask you as question-- Billy: What? Ray: Yesterday, I'm outside with my little girl, and I'm flying a kite. Now, what's up with a 36 year old man flying a kite and a 12 year old boy having this big record deal, man? Billy: Well you got married. Ray & Trish: (laughter) Ray: And Billy, you know what? You--don't do that until you're ready, okay? Billy: (chuckles) Okay. Trish: Well on that subject, one of the first things we should ask is-- I heard Lee Ann Womack's daughter Aubrey was really sad she didn't get to meet you at Fan Fair. Do you have a girlfriend? Billy: I used to. Trish: What happened? Billy: Well, everything's just happening so quick, I didn't get to see her much-- Trish: mmmhmmm Billy: --so... Trish: 'Cause you're out there on the road all the time. Billy: Yeah. Ray: With a new record deal, is there...--I mean, what's going on? You got a minibike now? What's happening? Billy: I've got nothin' yet. Ray & Trish: (laughter) Ray: Sounds like you better talk to mom and dad, little mister! Billy: Well, I got Sony Playstation. Ray: Do they still make you do chores around the house? Billy: I mow the law, I clean the cat out-- Trish: (giggles) Billy: --which I hate! Trish: Are you homeschooling, or do you still get to go to school with your, you know, friends? Billy: Um, I'm actually privately tutorted, and it works out great because if I miss the whole month of June--which it looks like I will--I'll go the whole month of July to make up the whole month of June. Ray: They let you drive the bus yet? Billy: Not yet-- Trish: What's the cool-- Billy: --they're afraid I'll smash into stuff. Ray & Trish: (laughing) Trish: What's the coolest thing you had to do yet? That you got to do? Billy: Probably sing at the ACM Awards. Ray: That's awesome. Buddy, we wish you all the best, man. Billy: Well thank you. Trish: Congratulations, and we love your new single, One Voice, everyone keeps calling up about that. Billy: Well thank you guys! Ray: Take care, mister man! Billy: I will, you too! Trish: Have a great summer! Billy: I will! Ray: Seeya bud. Billy: Bye!!
